By 1930, there were three Summerville families in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio. For those not familiar with the geography of the area, Steubenville lies on the Ohio river, near the border of Ohio and Pennsylvania, not that far from Rimersburg. They had grown up in Pennsylvania, and when most of their family were older, their father moved to Florida. In 1930, he and some of his family still lived there, but all the boys had migrated back to the area of their birth.

Merrill, Charlie and Carl Summervill , the male children of Joel Elmer, were all born in Rimersburg, Clarion County, Pennsylvania. The Summervills had lived there since the 1700s, and were a large extended family. The family was together there in 1900. Sometime between then and 1910 most of the family moved out and Joel and Hannah moved to Sharon, PA, across the border from Youngstown OH with Carl. All the older children appear to have moved out. (Elmer) Merrill seems to have been the first to marry. He moved in with his in-laws in Steubenville. He was living with his wife's mother, and her two brothers, one a widower with three children still at home. His adult in-laws were all born in England, including his wife. In 1910, Merrill was listed on the census in Steubenville. Carl was living with his parents near the Pennsylvania border, no longer near Rimersburg. Charles had married a Pennsylvania girl, and had a 5 year old son, though I have yet to figure out where they were in 1910. Ila and Pearl had also married. A "Chas Summerville" of the correct age was listed in Follansbee, Brooke, WV. about 2 miles outside Steubenville, across the Ohio River (Map). He is listed as a Shearman. in the Tin works. Unfortunately, Ancestry, where I sourced the Sharon census report, did not include the demographic info at the top of the sheets. As a consequence, I am guessing at a few things. Here is what I know.

Sharon is a town on the border of Ohio near Youngstown, and Joel (Joe) is listed as a policeman for the city. It appears Joe moved nearer to Ohio at this point, and then moved to Florida in the next few years.

1920
In 1920, Charlie seems to have moved to Steubenville. He apparently married 19 years earlier, in 1901, yet I couldn't find his family anywhere in the 1910 Census. It's worth noticing that our surname was still somewhat fluid at that time. Somerville, Summervill, and so on all changed between siblings, and from year to year. Also, names changed. Elmer Merrill, became Merrill (I can understand wanting to make such a change), and Merrill sometimes was mis-spelled Morrill, and Dorthey/Dorothy/Dorthy all refer to the same person, Charlie's wife.
While Charlie had moved to Stuebenville, I couldn't find Merrill in the census. I think he was still living in Steubenville, since he lived there in 1930, but I can't find them. If anyone knows, please let me know. I know that the Moalee (Maralee or Moralee) family had moved, and only Thomas seemed to remain in Steubenville, residing as a tenant in the house at 515 Centre Ave. This is next door to the home his family was living in a decade previously. It is possible that Merrill and his in-laws had moved for some reason related to the war, and then returned well after it.
In 1930, Merrill and family would be back, with his brother-in-law James boarding with them. It is worth noting that the addresses of Merrill and Charles on Seventh, Center, and Highland are all within a half-mile of each other. Carl's 1920 home was at the western edge of town, and in 1930 he lived a bit over a mile south of his brothers.
Carl also appeared in Steubenville, where he moved after being discharged from the army.

1930
In 1930, all the brothers were listed on the census in Steubenville. Charle's son Fred, who would have been 26, is no longer at home. A new son, Lindy, is there instead. Merrill is there with his family. And by this time, Jessie and Caroline have been added to Carl's family. Caroline will have died before the next census.

I've heard that Merrill died about 1936, in Steubenville. He would have been about 48.
